Lohja Hospital to stop maternity services as HUS takes austerity measures

The Lohja Hospital will stop maternity services at the beginning December, according to a press release issued by the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) on Tuesday.

The HUS is preparing to permanently relocate childbirth services from Lohja Hospital to the Women’s Hospital, Espoo Hospital, and Hyvinkää Hospital.

The relocation has been planned together with representatives of the staff and expected to be completed on December 1.

According to this schedule, the relocation will progress gradually, so that patients giving birth will be admitted to Lohja Hospital until November 27.

Options and solutions for the staff members are negotiated with the trade unions during the ongoing co-determination negotiations, which cover the entire HUS staff.

The final details of the relocation will be certain only after the co-determination negotiations are over and any changes to the operational plan are possible.

Preparations for relocation are based on the decision made by the HUS executive board on June 17, 2024, according to which the Lohja Hospital's profile will change.

In August this year, The Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) has taken a move to reduce staff as a part of its austerity measures.
