The polar night ((endless night) ended at Nuorgam, the northernmost village in Utsjoki in Finland on Saturday afternoon.
According to Finnish weather forecasting company Foreca, the sun set at 12:05pm and will not rise for about seven weeks. The sun will rise again on January 18.
The polar night, well-known as kaamos in Finnish, is the period around the winter equinox when the sun does not rise during the daytime above the horizon at any point.
